The Ohio Wetlands Association is pleased to offer student conference scholarships, made possible by the generous support of our Vernal Poolooza sponsors. Students interested in applying for this scholarship are required to submit a written paragraph outlining how participation in Vernal Poolooza 2026 will enhance their educational and career objectives. Submissions should be sent to lwilliams@ohwetlands.org no later than February 28, 2026, and must include both email and cell phone contact information. Grant recipients will be notified by March 5th. The Ohio Wetlands Association is proud to announce the 2026 Vernal Poolooza Conference!
This fun and engaging 3-day conference will be held on April 9th through the 11th at Sauder Village – 22611 State Route 2, Archbold, Ohio 43502. This well-attended conference offers valuable opportunities for networking and gaining knowledge about these unique ecosystems known as vernal pools.
Vernal Poolooza 2026 will feature discussions with ODNR H2Ohio, Black Swamp Conservancy and Mark Dilley, with MAD Scientist Associates.
Field trips will include excursions to Oak Openings Preserve, Goll Woods Nature Preserve, Bell Woods, ODOT mitigation site near Williamstown, Sauder Village wetland and Wintergarden/St. John's Nature Preserve – just to name a few!
Workshops will include a Macroinvertebrate identification lab, vernal pool specimen photography and Citizen Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (cQHEI) training and more!
As part of this fun-filled educational event, ODNR will be showing its documentary film WILD AT HEART. Participants will be able to experience Ohio’s Natural Wonders on the large screen.
There will be students, volunteer naturalists, park managers, landowners and environmental educators, and nature enthusiasts from around the state.
Participating in the conference is an easy way to join Ohio Wetland members who are passionate about sharing the importance of vernal pools and wetlands.
